Just like the ones I used to know
Where the parking lots glisten
And children listen
To hear cash registers all aglow
Yes, for the second year in a row, I participated, however briefly, in the consumer orgy that is Black Friday. What's funny to me about it is that I've seen many ads that have embraced the moniker which began, if I remember rightly, as a critique of our wanton materialism.
The weather was a lot nicer this year, though, and so the parking lots were easier to navigate. I didn't see anyone wearing costumes this year (last year, I witnessed a mother-daughter team dressed as elves), so I brought my iPhone for nothing. Well, almost nothing, anyway. Here's a shot of the parking lot outside of JC Penney and Macy's:
And I also snapped a quick indoor shot. This is a split-level view of folk standing in lines a few blocks long, 30 minutes before the doors open at Macy's. I didn't see any costumes, but I did see a guy who was scalping (!!), trying to sell a reservation for a television.
Okay, but what did you buy?
Is this for fun or for sport? What did ya get?
