From the Department of Don't Ask Me Why:
I was moseying around today, and came across a site for a game called 1000 Blank White Cards, invented by Nate McQuillen. You take a bunch of, yes, blank white cards, turn them into game cards, and play them. That may be the only rule.
Now for the twist that only an academic could love. For whatever reason, I've gotten it into my head that KBWC could/should be combined with the Theory Cards put out by Theory.org.uk. Maybe it was this article from Disenchanted that compares the practice of science to a game of Othello. I will leave it to both all of my readers to reflect on the Othello:science::KWBC:critical theory analogy here.
At any rate, I'm thinking, what if, rather than reading one of those crummy $50 theory anthologies, you just had a course where everyone spent the week making these cards and came to class for 3 hours to play? Surely it would be no worse than the all-you-can-read theory buffets that pass for such courses now? And I could call it Theory: The Gathering© and all my colleagues would think I got the name from Heidegger. And I could sell Kristeva and Baudrillard booster packs. And pretty soon, no one would go to conference sessions; CCCC would turn into one huge TTG tournament. And. And. And. Just remember, you heard it here first.
And yes, I wasted part of the evening making my first card. It's not hand-drawn, but then, everything I know about art I learned from Photoshop. Open the graphic in a new window to see the full-sized version:
