You'll excuse me for feeling more than a bit superior today, I hope. There's just something about being in the thick of so much music and so many hipsters. Ahhh, does me good. You'll find the full rundown over at Jenny's. Last night, we saw a number of Def Jux artists at Emo's, and then survived a couple of unremarkables to catch 50 Foot Wave, Kristin Hersh's band, at Momo's. Except for the tweeners whose names I don't even recall, it was a good night. What did I learn?
Wristbands are not watches. Mine's on a little snug, which means that mine's on until I cut it loose, which won't be at least until Sunday. In fact, the door guy at Emo's complimented me on the snugness of my wristband, all except for the compliment part.
The door guy at Opal Divine went back to school recently, and really enjoyed his sophomore lit course. His professor was someone who really believed that good writing comes from the heart, and he will be pleased to learn that this message really took, for at least one of his students. (This after the door guy saw my SU id, first thought I was a student, then asked me what I taught...)
Bluegrass is not the best genre for open air music, unless the audience is very quiet. Umm, we weren't.
Kristin Hersh is (a) loud (ok, we were right in front of the speakers); (b) talented (my ears were ringing, but ringing happily); and (c) cool. The whole story is over at Jenny's, but suffice to say that she was willing, basically right after their set, to stand for a couple of pictures. We totally jumped line on a bunch of other groupies, thanks to Lori's skill at celebrity interfacing, and Jenny was much less awkward than she thinks she was.

Jenny is almost always much less awkward than she thinks she is.
Except that one time...hoooooweeee that was awkward.
Oh, god! You're right.
That one time still makes me cringe to think of it.
For the sake of dear Jenny, we should never mention it again.
