I don't trip over there but once or twice a month, but I've gotten to be a regular reader at Kevin Smith's Movie Poop Shoot. Yeah, Smith puts his director's diary at the top, but he's someone who doesn't take himself too seriously. And the rest of the site is geekboy paradise--book reviews sometimes of books I've actually read, weekly comics, a bunch of film columns, etc.
One of the fun things that they do at MPS, every three or four weeks, is to take a truly awful movie that's playing in theaters, and redo the promotional poster, replacing the vapid praise offered by industry tools with the nastiest blurbs they can find. An example, you ask? Of Bad Boys II (one of the few on their hit list that I had the misfortune to see), Jonathan Perry writes that it's "so bad that it rockets through the gauntlet of insipidity and tastelessness and emerges on the other side to become good, only to ricochet off the wall of cinematic decency and become bad all over again!"
Yeah. So anyhow, MPS is inviting votes for a few more days for the worst movie of 2003, and also for the best critical barbs. My fave so far is Scott Brown of Entertainment Weekly, who says of House of the Dead: "I'd call this lazy filmmaking, but that would imply the existence of filmmaking here."
