It's been a hectic few days, and the ol' weblog has been eyeing me jealously. So rather than let the rest of January pass without comment, allow me to usher it into the past with nothing but happiness. I was speaking with someone on Friday who tried to persuade me that my memories of Syracuse winters past was hazy, and that this was not, in fact, the worst winter in some time. Two words, pal: record lows. Three more words: near record snowfall. We got another foot today, although it hasn't been too bitter-cold today. It's gotten to the point where "% chance of snow" effectively means "% of day it will snow." Sigh.
In other news, it's decision time in the department. I spent the last week reading applicant files for our graduate program, and reviewing candidate files for our visiting job interviewees. On top of that, all of our students are well into their own campus visits, occasionally looking for advice, etc. There's pretty much no telling who'll be around from day to day, and it's looking like there won't be too many off-days in the next month or so. Part of it was the rides I got (still no car), but I spent 12-14 hours a day at school each day this week. Next time you hear someone complain about how "those lazy college professors" only work 6-8 hours a week, do me a favor and give em a smack for me, k?
Gripe, gripe, gripe. On the brighter side of things, check out the following movie that's been making the blogosphere rounds lately, Hey Ya Charlie Brown. Charles Schulz meets Outkast. Brilliance. Be careful, though--it runs between 8 and 9 MB. If your connection is slow, it'll take a while, but will still be worth it.
