Raise the Goblet of Rock!

| | Comments (1)

Finally got off my tail and went to see School of Rock tonight. And you know what? It's a fun movie. There's no soft spot in my heart for Zeppelin, or Sabbath, or AC/DC, any of that. Never was my taste, never will be.

But Jack Black puts me on the edge of laughter, and frequently over that edge, whenever I see him. SOR is an extremely light film, but Black is infectious. Everyone in the movie looks like they're having fun, and it made it easy for me to enjoy it too.

If I'm going to be objective about it, I'd probably have to admit that it's amazingly predictable, and Black plays the only character with any depth whatsoever. It's probably a matinee, in other words, but honestly, I enjoyed it enough that I didn't mind paying full price. It's been a while since I've had as much fun at a movie.

Not very critical of me, I suppose, but there you have it.

c,
this was my feeling, too. it was a good movie. not sappy (which it could've been) and not overreaching. i remember walking away thinking that nobody does a better job at catching all those weirdo childhood/teenagerhood things than linklater. and he's from AUSTIN!
